Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience under a skilled journey-level automotive or diesel mechanic which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program, must have a valid New York State Class D Driver License at the time of appointment. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements.
Substitution: Apprentice training in automotive or diesel mechanics, or training gained by completion of technical courses in automotive or diesel mechanics at a school or technical institute may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Duties Description Assist in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment. This includes oil changes, tune-ups and minor repairs to vehicles, boats, trailers, heavy and small equipment. Will maintain parts and supplies inventories; clean equipment and shop areas; perform preventive maintenance inspections of vehicles and equipment following preventive maintenance schedules to insure safe and trouble free performance; and perform additional automotive shop tasks as assigned.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and/or work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must have a valid Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements. Will be subject to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (OTETA) of 1991, which requires employee testing for drug and alcohol abuse. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 3/31/2020. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed above. Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
