Minimum Qualifications Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one of the qualifying bachelor's degrees: Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, Building Engineering, Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Engineering Technology, Environmental Design Engineering, Environmental Resources Engineering, Environmental Systems Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees

Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience related to construction project supervision of the structural and architectural elements of the building.
Duties Description An Assistant Engineer (Civil/Construction) under the supervision of a Professional Engineer I and/or a Manager, Building Standards and Codes may perform one or more of the following (Percent of Duties = 5% to 20% for each task):
a) Use their consulting, evaluating, planning, design, engineering, and/or construction experience to assist design professionals, code officials, contractors, government officials, and the public by responding to code related questions.
b) Apply their education, knowledge, and experience of the mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences to assist design professionals prepare Technical Bulletins, Code Interpretations, Opinion Letters, monthly editions of the Code Outreach Program, and other technical resources.
c) Apply their education, knowledge, and experience of the mathematical, physical, and engineering sciences to develop training material. This material will be used to instruct design professionals, code officials, contractors, and government officials on how to understand New York’s building codes, read and interpret construction documents, and to perform construction inspections.
d) Present instructional courses that pertain to the Uniform Code, Energy Code, Regulations, and building sciences, to design professionals, code officials, contractors, and government officials.
e) Review, analyze, report, and make recommendations for new or revised training material.
f) Serve as a subject matter expert by providing engineering services, including but not limited to consultation, evaluation, planning, and project oversight.
g) Assist design professionals review, report, and recommend new or revised provisions of law, code, or regulation, as they pertain to the structural safety, adequacy, stability, and overall safety of buildings and structures.
h) Assist design professionals in the development of rulemaking documents for updating the Uniform Code, Energy Code, and code related Regulations.
i) Assist design professionals in the review of local laws and ordinances that govern building construction.
j) Review construction documents to verify compliance with the Uniform Code and Energy Code.
k) Administer and enforce the code in local governments that have declined to enforce the code, or as otherwise required by the Department.
l) Assist in processing routine variance petitions and serve as a technical adviser to the regional boards of review.
