Minimum Qualifications Position requires that the candidate be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or have a master’s degree in accounting, forensic accounting or related field. The ideal candidate is an auditor with at least (10) years’ total experience with at least (3) of those years having experience as a supervisor. Ideally, the candidate has a strong financial and analytical background who is experienced in conducting criminal and particularly white-collar criminal fraud investigations within the local, state and/or federal government contexts as well as other audit-based work history. Candidate must be extremely proficient in understanding, distilling and organizing large amounts of data and information, and can clearly and concisely summarize the information in a fashion compatible with the needs of an investigation. Candidate must be experienced in using data analysis, data mining and statistical software. Strong written and verbal communication skills are a must. Those familiar with New York State and federal laws and agencies, testifying in a court of law, and/or prior law enforcement experience will be given priority consideration.

Duties Description The Office of the New York State Inspector General [“NYSIG:], as established by Executive Law Article 4-A, is entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring that New York State government, its employees, and those who work with the State meet the highest standards of honesty, accountability, and efficiency. The Office of the New York State Welfare Inspector General [“OWIG”], as established by section 74 of the Executive Law, is responsible for maintaining the integrity of New York State’s public assistance programs. The Office of the New York State Workers’ Compensation Fraud Inspector General [“WCFIG”], as established by section 136 of the Workers’ Compensation Law, is responsible for investigating violations of the laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the workers’ compensation system.

Collectively, the three offices are known as the Offices of the Inspector General [“OIG”].

Job Description:

OIG seeks a Director of Audit for its Western Regional Office, based in Buffalo. Directors of Audit are responsible for supervising confidential investigative and forensic audits and systemic reviews on behalf of OIG, as well supervising Auditors within the Audit Departments in Buffalo and Syracuse. The Director of Audit will also be assigned investigations of their own and in conjunction with Investigative Counsels and Investigators, will interview witnesses, participate in surveillance operations and the execution of warrants, and may give sworn statements to prosecutors and/or testify in a court of law. The Audit department are assigned cases in conjunction with the Investigative Unit and work collaboratively with investigators and attorneys to investigate the allegations and report the findings. The Western Regional Director of Audit reports directly to the regional Deputy Inspector General.

Additional Comments This is a Management Confidential position that is appointed by the Inspector General. New York State residency is required. Salary is commensurate with experience.
