Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the New York State Education Department’s eligible list for Nurse 1. If you are on the New York State Education Department’s eligible list for Nurse 1, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete the letter and return it as instructed. To qualify for the eligible list, candidates must possess a license and registration to practice nursing in New York State.

Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a salary grade SG-12 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Candidates must also possess a license and registration to practice nursing in New York State.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for a Nurse 1 position in the New York State School for the Deaf (NYSSD). The incumbent of this position will provide professional nursing services to the students at the NYSSD. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide nursing intervention services for day and residential students;
• Provide instructional and dorm staff with information regarding students’ health in order to provide adequate care for the students;
• Develop and maintain communication with parents, staff, and students;
• Maintain accurate documentation of health records;
• Maintain infection control standards;
• Conduct health teaching and counseling; and
• Provide supportive or restorative care.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, 12-month appointment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of licensure and registration will be required for all candidates at the time of interview. Continued employment as a Nurse 1 is dependent upon maintaining a license and registration to practice nursing in New York State. Failure to maintain a license and registration to practice nursing in New York State will result in removal from employment. The work schedule for this position includes hours of Monday through Thursday, 11:00pm – 9:00am***.

*This position is eligible for an additional $7,000 Oneida County geographic pay.
**Leads to a maximum salary of $58,028 with annual performance advances.
***This position is eligible for an additional $7,000 3rd-shift differential.
