The incumbent of the position will be required to take a written examination for Coastal Resources Specialist 1, A PCO Select Job Title; fill out and submit the PCO Questionnaire; and be reachable for appointment from the newly established eligible list.
The preferred candidate will have a degree in climate and society, coastal environmental management, coastal management, coastal resources management, environmental management, environmental communications, environmental science and policy, human dimensions of the environment, sustainable environmental systems, or sustainability planning and two years of professional experience with responsibility for developing and implementing plans and projects that protect land, water and/or other resources from climate change related hazards, with an emphasis on communicating risk and resiliency concepts.
Duties Description As a Coastal Resources Specialist 1 in the Climate Change and Resiliency Unit, you would manage the review of planning and construction projects undertaken by waterfront communities and local organizations to advance economic development and protect natural resources for the purpose of improving community resilience. Within established guidelines, the incumbent would provide technical assistance and services to various parties, review projects and activities for consistency with the State's Coastal Management Program. More specifically, the Coastal Resources Specialist 1 will conduct research and provide guidance on sustainable and resilient solutions for waterfront communities facing extreme events, such as flooding, and communicate technical information for non-technical audiences accurately and effectively. The Coastal Resource Specialist 1 may represent the Office for various inter-agency climate-related efforts.
