Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience performing paraprofessional duties assisting in the conduct of
investigations * OR Two years of paraprofessional experience in a health or human service
agency at the state or local level, such as community relations or outreach representative
activities, related to health or human services provided to minority or low-income
populations*
(* Strictly clerical duties such as typing, filing, record keeping, and/or reception will not be
considered qualifying experience.)

Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate would have a two-year degree or credit hour equivalent in Criminal
Justice and one year of experience in conducting field investigations, including interviewing
witnesses and writing of investigative reports. Ability to manage multiple projects and
priorities.

Duties Description The Compliance Assistant will work in the Bureau of Special Investigations to conduct
undercover investigations of retail grocers suspected of defrauding nutritional programs.
The Compliance Assistant will be responsible for writing investigative reports, collecting,
processing, and maintaining the integrity of and proper disposal of evidence. This position
will confer with Department of Health counsel on hearing case preparation and provide
testimony at administrative hearings. Strong written and verbal communication skills are
essential for this position.

Additional Comments Non-competitive, contingent-permanent position. Extensive travel in the Western, Central,
and Capital regions of New York and to other regions of the State is required, including
overnights and travel to areas that may not be served by public transportation. The
appointee must demonstrate capacity to meet the transportation needs involved in carrying
out work responsibilities. Candidates considered for this position will be required to possess
a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and continuously thereafter.
