Minimum Qualifications Possession of a degree as a Medical Doctor, or Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery and a license to practice medicine in New York State, completion of an approved internship and residency, and three years of post-training experience in an appropriate specialty. Preferred Qualifications: Medical practice experience in a public health arena, ability to conduct research, and knowledge of the workers’ compensation system as it relates to impairment, treatment and return to work issues.

Duties Description Under the general direction of the Medical Director, the incumbent will assist the Medical Director in the general oversight of medical issues at the Board, including promoting high quality care and outcomes for all injured workers, and implementation and updating of the medical treatment guidelines. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Work on projects as assigned including:
Lead SLU Task Force for updating and revising outdated Impairment/SLU schedule
(from Schedule has not been updated since 1996.
(SLU=scheduled loss of use)
RTW projects

• Review of MG-1 and MG-2 (variance) denials with MDO nursing staff (regulatory requirement)

• Provide medical expertise and assist with monitoring provider compliance and disciplinary action (MDO and OGC)

• Provide medical expertise to MDO on health care programs, authorizing licensed physicians and other providers and granting licenses to medical bureaus

• Assist the Medical Director in developing and implementing strategies and programs to ensure appropriate training of internal and external stakeholders in the MTGs and other associated topics.
