Minimum Qualifications Possession of a degree as a Medical Doctor, or Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery and a license to practice medicine in New York State, completion of an approved internship and residency, and five years of post-training experience in an appropriate specialty. Preferred Qualifications: Medical practice experience in a public health arena, ability to conduct research, and knowledge of the workers’ compensation system as it relates to impairment, treatment and return to work issues.

Duties Description Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the incumbent will oversee all medical issues at the Board, including promoting high quality care and outcomes for all injured workers. Duties include, but will not be limited to:

• Provide medical expertise to the Chair, Executive Staff and Members of the Board.
• Direct and oversee medical treatment guidelines/drug formulary.
• Participate on the medical fee schedule committee.
• Write medical opinions for intricate and disputed cases that are appealed.
• Write medical opinions in complicated death cases.
• Issue medical opinions on causal relationship, advisability of operations, diagnosis, schedule loss findings, necessity for further treatment and examination in the most complex cases.
• Prepare written and oral reports on controversial medical subjects.
• Update and maintain medical treatment guidelines and education.
• Set long-term and short-term goals for staff, set priorities, ensure compliance with agency policies, rules and regulations, deal with employee relations issues as necessary and handle other administrative/managerial tasks.
