Minimum Qualifications ? A degree or experience in forestry, environmental studies, ecology, natural resources management, or a relevant discipline, such as aquatic ecology, conservation biology, etc.
? Excellent organizational skills in field setting
? A working knowledge of GPS/GIS and ecological monitoring methods
? Ability to work, and maintain a good attitude, while performing physical work in a variety of conditions
? Strong interest in and commitment to environmental stewardship and team-oriented approach to solving environmental challenges
? Must possess a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
? One year or more experience with invasive species identification and control methods
? Backcountry orienteering and Leave No Trace experience a plus
Duties Description The regional Invasive Species Technician will work closely with the OPRHP regional Biologist, Stewardship Specialist, Conservation Coordinator, and Invasive Species Unit staff to meet regional and statewide stewardship goals. The work of the Invasive Species Technician will focus largely on supporting projects that involve the protection of rare, threatened and endangered species and natural communities on park lands and Historic Sites. Job duties will primarily involve the survey, management and monitoring of invasive species (both terrestrial and aquatic), but may also include: site restoration and monitoring, database management, project planning, and education/outreach, as well as other duties to be determined at the discretion of regional staff. Duties may vary slightly per region.
Position Locations:
Position is based out of Saratoga Spa State Park, and travel will be required within the capital region state parks. A vehicle will be provided for any travel within parks. No overnights are expected.
? Support regional Stewardship staff in planning projects to meet regional goals
? Survey, remove, and/or monitor invasive species (aquatic and terrestrial plants, forest pest/pathogens)
? Provide guidance and support to field staff and volunteers (ECC, SCA, FORCES, partners, etc.)
? Collect and manage field data using standardized methods
? Maintain up-to-date project information in statewide databases (DESP, AGOL, iMap)
? Respond promptly to statewide Early Detection/Rapid Response needs
? Organize and participate in education and outreach events
? Conduct trainings for regional staff (Best Management Practices, iMap Invasives, etc.)
? Perform native plantings/other restoration duties
Additional Comments Seasonal appointment. Full time (40 hours/week). 5/28/2020 – 10/14/2020
Most work will occur from Monday through Friday from 8 am through 4:30 pm.
