Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience under a journey-level carpenter, which provided training equivalent to that in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training or training gained by the completion of technical courses in carpentry at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted for the above training and experience on a year for year basis.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Maintenance Supervisor, the Trades Generalist will perform carpentry work, woodworking, and general construction. Work assignments will require the incumbent to travel in park vehicles. The incumbent will plan and lay out work, including ordering materials and equipment; complete routine carpentry and repairs, including finish work; and perform restoration work on historic buildings. The incumbent must have the ability to read project plans as well as supply rough sketches for work to be performed and have a working knowledge of modern code compliance. Additionally, incumbents will install and adjust door and building hardware as required. Incumbent must have the ability to operate and maintain various types of woodworking equipment to ensure accurate and safe operation and use the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the tools required. The incumbent will be assigned to a specific project at the Taconic State Park for the rehabilitation of one of the Iron Workers Cabins (Cabin 3). All work done, must follow, conform with, or have applied the Secretary of the Interiors standards for Historic Preservation. The start date will be after Labor Day with exact date to be determined.
Additional Comments Operational Needs:
Applicants must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license as a term and condition of employment. Applicant must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
