Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent, non-competitive service as a Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Imaging).
Non-Competitive Appointment: Candidates must have four years of experience in a museum, university or cultural institution involving photography, digital imaging and scanning, or graphic output for exhibitions. A maximum of two years of appropriate training may substitute for the work experience on a year-for-year basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to candidates who have:
• Experience in CAD
• Basic knowledge of building materials and construction
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Cultural Education (OCE) is seeking candidates for a Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Imaging) position in the NYS Museum. Under the general direction of a Museum Exhibit Specialist 2, the Museum Exhibit Specialist 1 (Imaging) will provide Computer-Aid Design (CAD) rendering and imaging services for Museum programs and exhibits. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Produce mechanical images and drawings for museum production fabrication using CAD or comparable software;
• Work closely with exhibit designers and museum production to develop workable fabrication drawings based on design;
• Work with exhibit and graphic designers, curators and members of exhibit project teams from all areas of the museum to produce images for interpretive graphics, large photographic banners and designs, gallery text panels and stickers, educational and promotional materials;
• Laminate digital prints on exhibit panels and prepare images for installation by trimming, mounting and delivering to production;
• Provide digital imaging editing and photo retouching for exhibits, collections and programs; and
• Maintain and operate scanners, printers, laminate press and peripheral hardware for digital imaging and output.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent, non-competitive appointment. Promotions may change appointees’ negotiating unit. *Leads to a maximum salary of $62,457 based on annual performance advances.
