Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, Environmental Health/Science, or a related field AND at least five years of relevant professional research experience in an appropriate field; OR a Master’s degree in the appropriate field and four years of such experience; OR a doctorate in an appropriate field and two years of such experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in Environmental, Occupational, Reproductive, or Social/Behavioral epidemiology and conducting human exposure assessment associated with environmental contamination in air, water, soil, food, or consumer products. Experience in coordinating and managing epidemiology research and surveillance projects and public health programs. Experience with preparing grant proposals, reports, and publications. Experience interacting with and communicating results to diverse audiences. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, statistical software, and data management. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to effectively work in a team setting and interact with individuals at all levels. The preferred candidate will have a graduate degree in the above fields, or closely related field.

Duties Description The Research Scientist 4 will serve as Assistant Bureau Director within the Office of the Director, Bureau of Environmental & Occupational Epidemiology. Perform a broad range of essential epidemiological and research activities, including; problem definition, background research, study design, execution of protocols, analysis, and interpretation, preparation and dissemination of methods and findings. Assist in coordinating daily operations and monitoring progress. Assist in providing administrative, technical, operational, programmatic, scientific, and management support, guidance and direction. Serve as Co-Investigator, epidemiologist, and program manager on federal grants. Prepare grant proposals, progress reports, and publications. Collaborate with state and federal partners, stakeholders, public officials, scientific community, and the general public. Assist with response activities on public health crises, outbreaks, and emerging issues. Serve as subject matter expert as needed. Supervise and mentor junior research staff.

Additional Comments Full time, contingent-permanent, non-competitive appointment. Occasional day trips and overnight travel will be required.
