Minimum Qualifications Research Scientist 3 (RS3): Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Infection Control, Statistics/Biostatistics, Biomedical Science, or a related degree and four years of professional post-degree research experience in that field; or, a Master’s degree in one of the above fields and three years of such experience; or a Doctorate in one of the above fields and one year of such experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in conducting outbreak investigations, hospital infection prevention and control and/or conducting research to reduce healthcare-associated infections, providing technical assistance and training to healthcare providers, and presenting to professional/scientific audiences; current certification in infection control (CIC), strong organizational and analytic skills; and excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to adapt them to various audiences and settings.
Duties Description The Research Scientist 3 will support the Healthcare Epidemiology and Infection Control (HEIC) program in the Metropolitan Area Regional Office to perform a broad range of epidemiological & research activities necessary to support hospitals & healthcare facilities, primarily those where Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is identified. The incumbent will provide epidemiology consultation & technical guidance in the reporting, investigation, diagnosis, prevention, & control of healthcare associated infections (HAIs) to healthcare professionals, including infection control staff, physicians, nurses, & other state and local health department representatives. The incumbent will play a key role in department activities related to COVID-19 surveillance & response, including monitoring overall infection control capability in, and providing enhanced guidance to, healthcare facilities; providing technical guidance related to the statewide emergency regulations combat COVID-19; implementing HAI quality improvement & performance management activities; & serving as a liaison with internal & external stakeholders to coordinate efforts to monitor, investigate, control & evaluate reportable HAIs. In addition to the duties described above, the RS4 will have increased responsibility and independence, including major responsibilities for all aspects of research projects. The incumbent will interact more closely with higher level staff in DOH and external stakeholders and may have supervisory responsibilities.
Additional Comments Permanent, full-time, non-competitive appointment. Routine travel, including occasional overnight travel and travel to areas which may not be served by public transportation, is required. (20%)
