Candidates should have significant experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications, with a degree in a relevant field, such as Communications, English, Public Relations, Social Media, Digital Communications, or similar; at least 3-years of experience in digital communications; strong understanding of best digital practices; experience with web writing; experience with the Drupal content management system and HTML; website management experience; graphic design and user experience understanding; and knowledge of applying a customer service approach to web, social media and online interfaces.
Duties Description Under the general direction of the Executive Deputy Director of the Office of Renewable Energy Siting (ORES), the Assistant Public Information Officer will develop and execute effective communication strategies and implement proactive media outreach, including events, and responses to incoming media inquiries. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Facilitate all media inquiries as directed by the Executive Deputy Director and develop initial and ongoing media strategies to highlight ORES’ activities;
• Research and respond to media inquiries and ensure messages delivered are consistent, easily understood, and delivered to the appropriate stakeholders as well as ensure consistent messaging across all platforms;
• Maintain the ORES website and work closely with the Executive Deputy Director to identify, research and promote content for the ORES website;
• Responsible for the implementation and expansion of the use of social media for ORES;
• Conduct media outreach regarding ORES announcements and events and evaluate media outreach efforts;
• Develop and execute digital campaigns for ORES activities, coordinate events and announcements;
• Develop and disseminate media content, including press releases and media advisories, statements, talking points, Op-eds, and letters to the editor;
• Keep up with media trends and explore opportunities for new communications channels;
• Identify and monitor local media outlets and maintain outreach lists of the same;
• Identify opportunities to reach out to the public via traditional and social media;
• Develop communications materials, print and video media, including producing annual reports and newsletters, brochures, correspondence, videos, other virtual materials, and events;
• When necessary, serve as spokesperson for the agency;
• Assist with other projects and assignments as needed.
Additional Comments ORES will be instrumental in helping New York State meet the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA) policy goals, the most ambitious climate legislation in the United States. The office will be responsible for implementing and executing a new streamlined permitting process for renewable energy projects in New York State greater than 25 MW, and any projects 20 MW and above that opt into the siting process administered by ORES. The process has been streamlined within this new office to decrease the time from application to approval for construction to a maximum of one year.
