Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, Social/Behavioral Sciences or a related degree and four years of professional post-degree research experience in that field; or, a Master’s degree in one of the above fields and three years of such experience; or a Doctorate in one of the above fields and one year of such experience.

In addition to the above requirements, the ideal candidate will have: A Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics/Biostatistics, Social/Behavioral Sciences, or a related field. A minimum of four years of experience in communicable disease related activities or quality improvement/performance management. Familiarity with epidemiological research methods. Experience in management and analysis of large data sets, including experience with statistical database software, such as SAS. Excellent written and oral communication skills, which includes both public speaking and preparation of written materials such as reports, abstracts, and publications. Familiarity with surveillance and outbreak response activities. Experience supervising professional level staff. Advanced knowledge of SAS and Microsoft Access, and experience using computer-based software packages. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Research Scientist 4 (RS 4) in the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) Program, the Research Scientist 3 (RS3) will assist with the management and evaluation of data in NYSIIS and well as support the analysis of school immunization survey data. In addition, once a vaccine against the circulating pandemic virus strain becomes available, its distribution and delivery will be a major focus of pandemic response efforts. The RS3 will lead the recording, tracking and analysis of COVID-19 vaccine orders, inventory and administration, reporting to senior leadership and ensuring data is sent in a timely manner to the CDC. The RS3 will also lead the development, implementation, and analysis of research projects utilizing immunization registry data and other available data. Research projects will include identifying indicators for children who are at risk for being under-immunized; determining geographic areas of under-immunization and supporting data-driven program activities to increase vaccination coverage levels, including identifying issues with provider reporting to NYSIIS. The incumbent will also support the data retrieval, management, and analysis of all school, daycare, audit, retrospective, and post-secondary immunization surveys in New York State. Functioning as the school immunization survey expert for the New York State Department of Health, the incumbent provides resources and data to state and regional public health officers, school officials, and county health officials. The RS3 will also supervise staff.
