Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications for taking the open-competitive examination: A Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or manufacturing engineering, and three years of post-degree engineering experience in assembly line development and manufacturing This experience MUST include mechanical power press, progressive dies, machining, fixture design, assembly, automation, mass finishing/coating metal products, or combination of the above types of manufacturing areas.

Duties Description Corcraft is the “brand name” of the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision Industries Program. Industries uses manufacturing as a component of the Department’s overall re-entry program, which is designed to teach inmates work ethic and skills. The program puts inmates’ time to good use inside and outside prison. Corcraft uses a business model to guide decisions and balance cost, market process and other demands from both the correctional system, and outside customers. Corcraft employs roughly 280 civilian staff and 1,750 inmates across 26 correctional facilities throughout New York State.

The Manufacturing Engineering Specialist provides technical guidance and support to correctional facility industrial staff and management regarding the manufacturing process for various products with in Correctional Industries. Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Operations, the Manufacturing Engineering Specialist will be responsible for the following:

-Assist with the development of new products and new product lines. Will serve as a technical expert in new product development process and will be responsible for coordinating wht facility manufacturing sites.

-Reviews and provides input on bills of materials. Analyzes bills of materials for accuracy and works with the accounts in the Financial Management Unit to make improvements as needed.

-Serve as the technical liaison for raw material sourcing and development. Will review bid specifications and assist in determining if the minimum qualifications have been achieved.

-Review and provide feedback on manufacturing processes by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements and equipment layout.

The Manufacturing Engineering Specialist should have a good working knowledge of LEAN and Six Sigma methodology. IN addition they should be familiar with various manufacturing processes, including tool fixture design, welding, machining, assembly, metal fabrications, plastic injection molding, etc.

The Manufacturing Engineering Specialist is an important part of Corcraft’s Central Office team, working with Central Office and facility staff to ensure Corcraft effectively and efficiently produces high-quality materials to meet customer expectations.
