Minimum Qualifications Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications: Currently licensed and registered as a professional nurse in NYS; AND a minimum of five years of post-licensure health care, public health, community health, or other nursing experience in an appropriate facility setting as defined below. Three years of this experience must have been providing direct patient care in a licensed health care facility, and two years of this experience must have been in nursing supervision, or working in the capacity of a nurse administrator as defined on exam announcement: https://www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/announcements/oc-cr/decentralized/20-969.cfm
Preferred Qualifications: Experience as an RN in a Nursing Home environment. Familiar with the nursing home surveillance process and State and Federal Laws and Regulations; strong leadership skills in management of professional staff and committee and team participation; supervisory experience; ability to motivate staff quality assurance and performance improvement experience; staff training/staff development; excellent investigative skills, critical thinking and problem solving, communication, computer, written and organizational skills; ability to function independently, prioritize and address multiple tasks and responsibilities; scheduling expertise; Surveyor Minimum Qualification Test (SMQT) certified is preferred.
Duties Description As a Community Nursing Services Consultant HHS, you would participate in a range of activities which include conducting or participating in investigations or on-site surveys of health care settings to determine their level of compliance with federal and State rules and regulations; monitoring during work strikes, adverse events, post survey revisits; serving as a nursing services expert; testifying as an expert witness in litigation proceedings; interpreting policies, rules and regulations; representing the Department at meetings and public forums. You will serve as a part of a survey team and be responsible for the facilitation of team operations during and post surveillance and investigations.
Additional Comments Permanent, or temporary pending examination, full-time. This position involves significant travel which may include locations not served by public transportation. Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the New York State Education Department must be maintained for continued employment in title. Candidates must pass SMQT within first year of employment, as required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to conduct surveys. *Hiring payrate includes title-based salary adjustments.
