Minimum Qualifications Two to four years of college experience in biology, ecology, wildlife, natural resource management, or related field with course work related to ecology or wildlife management; fieldwork experience related to wildlife is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required, and ArcGIS is preferred.
Candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as a term and condition of employment.
Duties Description 1. Assist with literature reviews in wildlife ecology and management techniques; 2. Write summaries, reports, and guidance documents; 3. Develop outreach materials for educational campaigns related to wildlife; 4. Coordinate with regional staff to collect information on wildlife-related recreational opportunities. 5. Assist with field work (e.g. deer density assessments; vegetation monitoring; site assessments of wildlife impacts); 6. Conduct data analysis; 7. Assist with natural resource stewardship activities, as needed.
Additional Comments Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The incumbent must be able to work as a member of a small team and must be comfortable working in both the field (25%) and the office (75%). The incumbent must have excellent communication skills, including written and be meticulous in the collection and handling of data. Fieldwork may involve working under a variety of weather conditions, wearing waders, carrying moderately heavy gear and exposure to poison-ivy, leeches, ticks and mosquitoes. Office work will include data entry and analysis, research and writing.
Overnight travel may be required.
This is a temporary position that will begin in May and end in August-September, 2021.
