Minimum Qualifications To be considered for permanent appointment, candidates must be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list or be eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
Assistant Engineer (Civil/Transportation) is a continuous recruitment examination. All interested candidates must complete the online application here: https://www.cs.ny.gov/engineering/oc/. There is no fee for this exam. The minimum qualifications for examination are:
Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) examination
AND
A Bachelors degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Management, Construction Engineering Management Technology, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Hydraulics Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Planning and Engineering, or Engineering Science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees;
OR
One year of full-time engineering experience with transportation projects related to highways/roadways, railroad, bridges, airports, waterways, building structures, or traffic management and safety systems.
Duties Description To perform all engineering duties related to projects concerned with new or rehabilitated roads, bridges, railroads, airport structures, construction materials, waterways and roads; select, from a wide variety of alternatives, the most efficient and effective plan of work; review consultant and contractor plans and estimates; and recommend road pavement, drainage construction, and traffic management and safety systems.
Additional Comments Appointment to this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval to fill.
