Minimum Qualifications G-14 – A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Biostatistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related degree and one year of experience in the appropriate field. Thirty graduate hours leading to an advanced degree in an appropriate field may be substituted for the required experience.

G-18 – A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Biostatistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related degree and two years of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field, or a Master’s Degree in the appropriate field and one year of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field.

G-22 – A Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Biostatistics, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a related degree and three years of professional post degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s Degree in the appropriate field and two years of such experience; or a doctorate in the appropriate field.

Preferred Qualification: Strong statistical and data management skills. Proficient in the use of SAS and/or SQL, Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point. Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau is desired. Experience with extracting, merging and linking health care datasets for the application of higher order analysis. Knowledge of statistical methods and their application for predictive analytics. Excellent communication and organizational skills. The ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment.

Duties Description The Assistant Research Scientist, or Research Scientist 1/2 position will work within the Office of Quality and Patient Safety and will assist in a broad range of research, analysis, reporting, and evaluation activities. The Research Scientist will work under the direction of a senior level research scientist and will perform research activities including: problem definition and literature reviews; data analytics related to data robustness and quality; descriptive and inferential analyses to support Department-wide efforts related to COVID-19, Care Management; and develop statistical programs to extract, collapse and analyze data from large data sources and apply iterative matching algorithms to link data; collaborate with other research scientist and analytical staff on all phases of research and contribute to healthcare policy recommendations based on applied research findings; and, assist in the preparation of statistical briefs and manuscripts for publication. If appointed as an Assistant Research Scientist, the incumbent will assist other research staff with these duties; if appointed as a Research Scientist 1 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform these duties under general supervision.
