Minimum Qualifications Two years’ experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, or recreational facility; OR two years’ experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson, or completion of an appropriate two-year technical/trades school course.

It is the responsibility of applicants to accurately describe their experience and demonstrate that they meet minimum qualifications and agency needs.

Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Park Worker 3 may be engaged in the performance or coordination of, but not limited to, the following tasks and activities as described:

1. routine, semi-skilled light maintenance

2. general area maintenance including but not limited to litter control, grounds upkeep and landscaping, snow and ice control, and restroom facilities (supplies/cleanliness)

3. conducts inspections of assigned area for safety hazards, corrects problems where possible and makes recommendations to supervisor for appropriate skilled trades assistance when needed

4. conducts inventory of tools, small equipment and supplies and submits recommendations to supervisor for ordering these materials

5. schedule field lighting times and communicate with Permit holders to coordinate those times; answers patron inquiries concerning park information and resolves patron complaints in the field.

6. operates light trucks, dump and garbage trucks, snowplows, passenger vehicles, tractors and other equipment as required

7. acts as shift supervisor for assigned area, and directs and coordinates subordinate staff (both full-time and seasonal) in the performance of the activities described as required

8. loads, moves, carries or unloads materials of varying weights and sizes as necessary

9. trains subordinate staff in the proper use of small hand tools and in the operation and maintenance of lawn mowing and power edging tools as required

10. assists park manager in coordinating and executing recreation events conducted at the park.

11. prepares and maintains a wide assortment of reports such as time sheets, vehicle use forms, project status reports, work orders, fuel reports, inventory and correspondence

12. willing to attend First Aid, CPR/AED training as well as “Game of Logging” courses.

13. performs other related duties as required

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS
Selected candidate must possess and maintain a New York State Motor Vehicle Operators License by date of appointment and will be required to obtain a class B CDL within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment
***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation and Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The incumbent is required to participate in pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.

Ability to operate and skill in the use and maintenance of small lawn/garden equipment and small hand tools
Ability to do simple math such as add, subtract, multiply and divide
Ability to read and understand written and/or verbal material and instructions
Possess effective communication skills; Spanish language proficiency is preferred
Ability to lift, carry and move equipment and/or materials of different weights and sizes
The candidate may be expected to work weekends and various shifts, holidays and special events to provide effective operational coverage
