Minimum Qualifications Regional Water Safety Coordinator should be certified (or obtain by an agreed upon date) as a “waterfront lifeguarding instructor” and have at least three seasons (six months) experience as a supervising lifeguard. The required practical leadership may have been with NYS Parks or an equivalent capacity in another organization.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Regional Safety Manager, the Water Safety Coordinator oversees regional water safety activities on a seasonal basis. Tasks include:
Assist in recruiting, testing, hiring and training of water safety personnel.
Review lifeguard certifications for acceptability.
Ensure lifeguard Letters of Agreement are signed.
Work with park managers on scheduling personnel.
Perform regular inspections of all regional aquatic facilities; and filing written reports with the Regional Office and the Agency Water Safety Unit.
Recommend necessary action to achieve the safest and most efficient operation of the regional bathing facilities, assures that an effective in- service training program is maintained and, if necessary, conducts the training.
May also assist police and the State Director of Water Safety with investigations of serious accidents, submersions or drowning.
Assists and advises regional/park representatives regarding purchases of water safety equipment and reviews facility equipment needs requests for the region.
Communicate on a regular basis with Facility Managers and Regional Safety Manager, in addition to, the Regional Director, Assistant Regional Director and the Director of Water Safety as needed or requested.
Performs other water safety duties as assigned.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
Knowledge of current water safety equipment is necessary.
Candidate must be available to work weekends and hours as needed.
