Minimum Qualifications There is no written test. If you meet the Minimum Qualifications, your education and experience will be evaluated against the general background/critical activities of the position.


Candidates must have one year of post-master's experience** as a Speech Language Pathologist AND New York State licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist; or American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) certification in Speech Language Pathology.

** This experience is NOT in addition to the experience required for licensure or certification. However, you must have had one full calendar year of experience.

Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This Speech Language Pathologist 2 working in the Article 16 clinic participates in a broad range of experiences dealing with the communication disorders and swallowing needs of individuals. They will provide clinical services as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Applying their skills and techniques to meet the specific needs of individuals served through oral-motor assessments, swallowing studies, developmental and strengthening of muscles used to swallow/speak, diet consistency recommendations, safe dining techniques, training of choking prevention/aspiration prevention. By increasing the Speech Language Pathology department’s ability to evaluate and assess the risk of choking/aspiration the wellbeing of those served will be protected. In addition, training takes place for individuals using augmentative communication systems which enables them to indicate needs (pain, sickness, anger, etc.).

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


• Provide Speech Language Pathologist services to individuals in Region 5 catchment area.


• Evaluates and treats individuals who have difficulty with speech or language Services

• Conduct swallow evaluations; oral, pharyngeal, laryngeal and respiratory function examination as it relates to the functional assessment of swallowing

• Work with individuals with communication devices or sign language, assessments, feeding and swallowing skills

• Evaluate risk of choking and aspiration.

• Recommend methods of oral intake and choking risk precautions

• Develop treatment plans employing appropriate compensations and therapy techniques.

• Travel to ICF for individual evaluations and staff training.

• Act as Article 16 Clinic Treatment Coordinator; coordinating the provision of all treatments and therapies as prescribed in the person's treatment plan by:

- ensuring progress notes are up to date in the clinical record

- following up on outside referrals by the clinic

- evaluating the person's/collateral's satisfaction with the service(s)

- reviewing the clinical record with the person and providing explanations of its content

- bringing any concerns of the person to the attention of appropriate clinical personnel and following up to ensure resolution

• Function as the clinic’s liaison between OPWDD and outside providers

• Participate in treatment meetings, as necessary
