Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in motor equipment under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Duties Description Under the supervision of the Park Managers at Hamlin Beach, the incumbent is assigned to diagnose and complete repairs on all motorized equipment at Hamlin Beach State Park. Such equipment will include, but is not limited to, trucks, tractors, riding mowers, push mowers, and other lawn and construction equipment. The incumbent may be assigned to repair similar equipment in other parks within the region. The incumbent also needs to be semi-skilled in heavy equipment operations as well as operate vehicles requiring a CDL Class “A” license and various pieces of large equipment throughout the region. Such equipment will include, but is not limited to, dump trucks, loaders, backhoes, excavators, bulldozers and trenchers. In addition, the incumbent may be required to perform other semi-skilled trades work as assigned. Although the work of a Trades Generalist is periodically inspected by the supervisor, the incumbent is expected to work with considerable independence as is typical of a tradesperson. The incumbent will use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, measuring and testing instruments appropriate for the crafts that are assigned. The incumbent will also be expected to be deployed to perform work during emergency events as directed by the State Emergency Management Operations Center and/or NYSOPRHP management.

Additional Comments Must possess journey level skills in vehicle and motorized equipment repair and be semi-skilled heavy equipment operation.
Must be able to read/interpret plans, diagrams and specifications.
Must be able to understand and carry out instructions, including those in writing.
Must have the ability to supervise and train others, run projects and be available to work on emergency projects.
Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
Must obtain a valid NYS CDL Class A (or better) with air-brake and “N” endorsement within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
Will be required to obtain and maintain a NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles Inspector Certification within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
Must have the physical ability to perform heavy lifting.
Must keep up to date on training through the CSEA partnership, SLMS and local trainings.
Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate effectively with other staff members.
Work schedule varies and will include nights, weekends and holidays.
