Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.

When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager, the incumbent is responsible for:

Performing journey level work in the primary trade of plumber/steamfitter and semi-skilled levels of work in carpentry, electrical or other trades in the repair and maintenance of facilities and equipment.

Completing medium to heavy manual labor and operating and maintaining a variety of equipment.

Performing plumbing/steamfitter repairs and maintenance at Mine Kill State Park and other satellite facilities.

Turning water on and off at buildings and drinking fountains; locating and repairing leaks; winterizing buildings; working on boilers, hot water tanks and on-demand hot water heaters; park water and sewer line repairs; operation and maintenance of pool filtration systems; and the start-up, operation and maintenance of seasonal drinking water systems.

Performing multiple tasks and projects associated with the maintenance of parks, grounds and infrastructure.

Reading and working from blueprints; planning and conducting projects from start to finish, including estimating costs and following a budget; working independently with a minimum of direct supervision; and assigning, supervising, reviewing, training and evaluating the work of lower level employees.

Assisting in other areas of site operations as directed, which may include emergency situations.

Being committed to providing excellent customer service to park visitors by answering questions and addressing their concerns promptly and courteously.

Additional Comments Must possess and maintain a valid NYS Class D driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.

Must possess or obtain a Class C Water Systems Operator Certificate within the probationary period and maintain the certification as a term and condition of employment.

Must possess or obtain “Game of Logging” chainsaw safety and productivity training program during the probationary period (subject to offerings) as a term and condition of employment.

Must be able to follow written direction, record and document required information, and communicate effectively.

Must comprehend and understand safety and code regulations on all aspects of operation.

Must be able to work both independently and as a team member.

Must be familiar with the safe use of supplies, tools and equipment related to general construction.

Must have the physical ability to perform heavy lifting.

Must be capable of basic computer operation.
