Salary RangeFrom $37507 to $46103 Annually
Minimum Qualifications Two years of experience in the maintenance of a park, historic site or recreational facility; OR two year of experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson, or completion of an appropriate two year technical/trades school course.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager, the incumbent will perform semi-skilled maintenance and repairs activities in a combination of trades with the primary focus on the maintenance of trails and other recreational improvements at Mine Kill State Park and satellite facilities. Duties will include:
Performing routine inspections and maintenance activities including, but not limited to trail work, invasive species management, mowing, weed-whacking, tree cutting, chipping, and wood splitting.
Assisting with hazardous tree removal and pruning activities, involving the operation of chainsaws, stump grinders, and chippers.
Assisting with pool operation and maintenance.
Assisting with snow removal, shoveling snow, and operating vehicles to plow snow during the winter months.
Supervising, reviewing, training, and evaluating the work of lower level employees assigned to work in their areas of responsibility.
Performing semi-skilled maintenance and repairs activities or assisting with work in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs.
Assisting in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, assigning, and directing staff and working with park patrons to minimize potential problems.
Providing excellent customer service to patrons by answering questions and addressing their concerns promptly and courteously.
Additional Comments Must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license as a term and condition of employment.
Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
Must possess or obtain a pool operator certification within the probationary period and must maintain the certification as a term and condition of employment.
Must possess or obtain “Game of Logging” chainsaw safety and productivity training program within the probationary period (pending class availability) as a term and condition of employment.
Must obtain American Red Cross certification in First Aid and CPR/AED during the probationary period and maintain certification as a term and condition of employment.
Must be able to work a variable schedule, which includes weekends and holidays.
Must be able to follow written direction, record and document required information, and communicate effectively.
Must be able to work both independently and as a team member.
Must be familiar with the safe use of supplies, tools and equipment related to general construction.
Must be capable of basic computer operation.
