Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Duties Description Duties include: conducting surveys for forest/young forest and grassland birds, marsh birds, raptors, New England cottontail and small mammals; assisting with data entry, data summarization and completion of summary reports related to work on these and other projects. Incumbents should have a demonstrated ability to identify northeastern bird species by sight and sound and/or experience with small mammal trapping. Experience in the use of GPS, GIS and Excel are required. Experience in recording vegetation measurements in the field and identifying habitat types from aerial photographs is desirable. Position involves travel from the office to study sites and will require long days and frequent early morning and evening hours. Rabies pre-exposure vaccination is preferred.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 3/31/2022. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
