Minimum Qualifications Currently licensed and registered to practice medicine in New York State and completion of an appropriate residency program for the required specialty.

Duties Description The Disability Review Physician Specialist would participate as a member of a disability adjudication team, in the granting or disapproval of disability claims under the Social Security law.
Incumbents of these positions will be responsible for the review of medical documentation relating to Social Security Disability claims. Specific duties include the consideration of medical evidence in disability cases to establish the existence, severity, onset and duration of medical impairments; analyze the sufficiency of medical evidence to evaluate disabilities; make a finding of fact on the medical issues assessing the severity and the impact on functional limitations imposed by the impairments; make telephone contact with treating sources to obtain clinical data; provide consultation and training to Disability Analysts; finalize adjudications.

Additional Comments Appointment to these positions is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval to fill. Full-time permanent appointments will be made. If certified by Civil Service, mandatory reemployment list candidates must be considered first for appointment to this title.

Not all prior arrests and/or convictions will prohibit appointment. Information is considered on a case-by-case basis.

For positions in the NYC area, there is a location stipend of $3026.
