Duties Description Under the supervision of the Training Specialist 2 MH, the Training Specialist 1 MH will simultaneously deliver several OMH training initiatives designed to train and develop the OMH workforce which have a direct impact on Health and Safety, Revenue Generation, and/or Core Mission presently, while also developing them into modules for the future. Of the core direct care programs, these two are considered OMH’s anchor programs:
Preventing and Managing Crisis Situations (PMCS) – This vitally important training program is mandated for OMH staff and strongly recommended for non-State staff working in inpatient settings. It is key to the effort to reduce restraint and seclusion and to the creation of a violence- and coercion-free environment in our hospitals. BEWD conducts train-the-trainer (TTT) programs statewide and certifies and mentors trainers who provide direct delivery for OMH programs and for non-State providers. With a sustained increase in demand for TTTs statewide, OMH has a great need to develop additional full-time PMCS Master Trainers (MT) to ensure we have enough qualified Instructor Trainers (IT) and MTs to meet the need of both our State and non-State providers. The incumbent will be expected to develop first as a PMCS trainer (for direct delivery) and subsequently as an IT. Additionally, PMCS implementation guidelines require BEWD to provide both pre- and post-training support to facility PMCS coaches; the incumbent will play a large role in the support of these coaches.
Partnering for Safety (PFS) – This program builds and maintains skills that support work environment and interpersonal safety for staff of both State and non-State mental health service providers working in community settings. PFS is mandated for OMH community/ outpatient staff and strongly recommended for non-State staff working in outpatient/ community settings. The incumbent will plan, organize, develop, and deliver PFS train-the-trainer programs for State and non-State providers, and will also assist with curriculum revisions and development as needed to maintain the program. The incumbent will be expected to attain IT status. As with PMCS, the PFS curriculum will be updated with some, if not all, of the pre- and post-implementation strategies that were identified to be used with PMCS.
Training Delivery – Under the supervision of a Training Specialist 2 MH, incumbent will design and deliver training programs for clinical and direct care staff throughout the OMH system based on needs assessments conducted. Examples of these trainings include Trauma-Informed Practice, Therapeutic Communications Skills, Core Concepts, Motivational Interviewing, Teen Intervene, and Clinical Supervision, as well as other clinical training that support both health and safety and the core mission of OMH.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Plan, organize, develop, coordinate, promote, conduct, and review training and development programs to improve performance of agency staff and operations.
o Serve as one of the Agency’s Instructor Trainers for the core programs.
o Function as a technical expert and resource of the core programs for facility trainers and licensed community providers.
o Review participant training course evaluations to determine deficiencies in content. Recommend and implement corrective action.
o Research various sources to find information, materials, and technologies to help in the design and development of training programs.
o Assist with curriculum revisions and development as needed to maintain the programs.
• Organize and develop training materials from various sources while determining proper curriculum content and presentation methods.
The incumbent will be required to travel statewide to deliver PMCS and PFS train-the-trainer programs to State and non-State providers, and to observe, develop, and mentor PMCS and PFS instructors.
Appointment to this position is contingent upon Division of Budget approval to fill.
