Minimum Qualifications Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems OR an associate’s degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.
Substitution: Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.
1. Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as
B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience.
2. Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years or experience.
Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license; CDL BP class and New York State Inspector’s License prior to probation expiration. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS driver’s license, have a clean record which is free from major violations and a pattern of repeat violations.

Duties Description According to Civil Service Standards but particularly must be a highly skilled mechanic and be experienced working on all sorts of vehicles including tractors, busses, cars, lawnmowers and various other machines; must be capable and creative. The mechanic must also be willing to work overtime when necessary. The mechanic must have working knowledge of mechanical and electrical repairs on gas powered automotive and motor driven equipment and must be able to make accurate diagnosis of mechanical or electric problems for gas and diesel powered equipment. Must have the ability to use tools, equipment and materials of the trade, be able to understand and carry out written and verbal instruction, ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, circuit diagrams and blueprints. Must have knowledge of practices and techniques of making a variety of mechanical, electrical, electronic and hydraulic repairs on gas or diesel motor equipment.

Additional Comments The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
In addition to the annual salary, this position is eligible for $3,026.00 downstate location pay. Different shifts may be required from time to time to meet the needs of the College.
