Minimum Qualifications Either 1. ONE YEAR of experience assisting in engineering, engineering technology, engineering management technology, architecture or architectural technology, environmental technology, electronics, electronics technology, landscape design, materials laboratory technology, drafting or surveying, AND graduation from high school or possession of diploma issued by a recognized educational authority;
Or 2. 18 semester credit hours of college course work in mathematics, physical science, geology, engineering or engineering technology, architecture or architectural technology, construction technology, environmental technology, landscape architecture/design, drafting, forestry, surveying, aeronautics, electronics, or electronics technology.
Or 3. graduation from a high school technical program (recognized by an accrediting agency as meeting acceptable program practices and standards) in CAD/CAM, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, electronics OR from a military construction specialty school.
Duties Description This position will provide assistance to land survey personnel by performing field and office tasks necessary for the completion of surveys of State lands and the maintenance of records associated with those surveys. Field tasks will include assisting in field reconnaissance of boundary lines in preparation for the staff or consultant surveys, assisting in field checks of completed consultant surveys, clearing traverse lines and setting up backsights and foresights for angle/distance measurements on staff surveys, assisting the survey crew, and at times will carry survey tripods, various tools, iron rebar for property marking and other items which may accumulate to 30 pounds. Office tasks include copying of deeds, maps, and other records to be used by staff and updating and maintenance of regional land records. Entry level technical tasks in both field and office may be assigned after the employee has gained some experience and has been trained in those tasks.
The position will also assist in the acquisition of lands for the Department by gathering land records for proposed acquisition properties and making maps with ESRI Geographical Information System software.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 30 pounds.
This is a part-time, hourly position funded through 3/31/2022. Program needs and/or funding will determine the actual termination date of the position which may be prior to the date indicated here. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
