Minimum Qualifications "Current Department of Health employee with permanent or contingent permanent status as a Health Care Surveyor 2 (Nursing), SG-19.

OR you must be licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State AND have three years of post-licensure professional nursing experience, at least two of which must have been professional clinical nursing experience in a licensed health care facility and take a NYS examination using the link provided at: https://www.cs.ny.gov/announarchive/announcements/20-911.cfm

For the purpose of this examination, qualifying health facilities and programs include hospitals, nursing homes, adult homes, ambulatory care facilities, managed care organizations, psychiatric centers, diagnostic and treatment clinics, home health agencies, assisted living facilities, hospice, renal dialysis units, alcoholism and substance abuse treatment facilities, developmental centers and community-based programs for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled. Experience as an RN in a private doctor's office or group practice, or as a school nurse is NOT considered qualifying for the purpose of this examination.

Substitution: A bachelor's or master's degree in Nursing can be substituted for the one year of required general nursing experience."

Preferred Qualifications:
Professional experience in a nursing home health setting with experience in administration of a federal or state health related certified program. Must have strong interpersonal skills, and excellent writing and editing skills. Must have a strong knowledge of databases and be computer literate. Experience in a nursing home health setting is preferred. Additionally, experience in interpreting regulations, conducting complaint investigations, conducting surveys and monitoring health care programs’ compliance with rules and regulations is preferred.







Duties Description The Health Care Surveyor 2 will be responsible for the surveillance and regulation of nursing home providers to ensure that care provided meets standards of practice and complies with State and Federal statutes and regulations. The Health Care Surveyor 2 will perform quality assurance review, conduct surveys or complaint investigations of nursing home providers, or investigate complaints of alleged misconduct on the part of the professional health care providers. Activities may include: reviewing quality assurance efforts; functioning independently or serving as a member of a survey or investigative team; investigating patient complaints and other complaints concerning nursing home providers, individuals and health care professionals including conducting interviews of patients, family members and health care professionals. In addition, the Health Care Surveyor 2 would be expected to write clear and concise reports using agency software; utilize computer systems to evaluate medical data; and identify patterns of questionable practice.

Additional Comments Travel within NYS to locations not served by public transportation is required.
