Minimum Qualifications Promotional candidates must be currently licensed and registered to practice psychology in New York State AND have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as an Associate Psychologist 2.
OR be reachable on the current Civil Service eligible list OR be eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law
Permanent candidates must hold a current license to practice psychology issued by the New York State Department of Education
Duties Description As a Licensed Psychologist, you would provide professional psychological services to individuals in the Taconic Catchment area. The Licensed Psychologist will be expected to provide services to an average of 40 individuals per month, with such diverse needs as sex offender relapse prevention counseling, Prader-Willi Syndrome symptoms and complications, severe psychological disorders such as schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder, as well as personality disorders, in addition to providing the more typical needs for psychological therapeutic intervention such as difficulties with depression, heightened anxiety states, suicidal ideation, and issues with anger and impulse control.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Complete psychological assessments, administer psychological tests and determine results
• Conduct follow-up psychotherapy or crisis counseling services for individuals and small groups,
• Conduct required trainings for other psychologists and agency staff.
• Cover the day-to-day psychological needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in State Operations and in the community, who are particularly vulnerable and need crisis and ongoing psychological support.
• Coordinate care among DDSOO TEAM members and individuals’ families where indicated
• Provide clinical supervision and support/oversight to master’s level clinicians in the Psychology Department.
• Develop, monitor, and revise treatment and behavior support plans.
• Conduct individual psychotherapy and counseling sessions, lead therapy groups.
• Provide clinical and administrative supervision to lower-level psychology department staff.
• Conduct clinical evaluation as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, in consultation with other direct support and clinical professionals to reach individuals optimal level of functioning and independence; perform diagnosis formulation and participate in the development of Behavioral Support Plan (BSP) based on Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA).
Duties may include but are not limited to (continued):
• Provide clinical consultation and training, and behavior plan development support to state/voluntary agencies clinical staff/families in area of expertise (autism, applied behavioral analysis, behavioral psychology).
• Serve as psychological examiner for those evaluations where a licensed practitioner is required. i.e., guardianship, competency, surrogate decision making, involuntary admission, etc. Testify in court hearings if indicated.
• Develop and present clinical trainings as required; conduct in-service trainings regarding behavior support plans, emphasizing behavioral antecedents, replacement behaviors, pro and reactive intervention strategies, and data collection procedures.
• Represent the psychology discipline on various committees and workgroups serving individuals in state operations; participate in Human Rights Committee, presenting information for consideration and approval.
Participation in the Administrator on Call (AOC) system is required. Occasional evening/weekend hours to attend meetings may be required.
Additional Comments Travel within the five-county catchment area will be required in the performance of the duties of the position. This may include a state-owned vehicle, as available, or the employee’s own car. An employee who uses his/her own car will be reimbursed at current negotiated rates.
