Minimum Qualifications Five (5) years of governmental regulatory experience in a supervisory or management role. Three (3) years of this experience must have been in a role exercising management responsibilities over staff. Demonstration of skills with regard to composition of reports and memoranda. Minimum of five (5) years professional experience in the combat sports industry demonstrating an emphasis and in-depth knowledge of professional and amateur Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).
Please note that this position is in the Exempt Jurisdictional Class, and as such the incumbent of this position would serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
Salary will commensurate with experience.
Duties Description Athletic Activities Assistants report to the Executive Director of the Commission. They process transactions and maintain records, documents and information to meet the requirements of the Commission. This work is accomplished in accordance with applicable procedures, rules, regulations and laws. Within this title Athletic Activities Assistants may be assigned, as needed in the discretion of the Executive Director and the Commission to perform specific functions, including but not limited to: coordination of medical information; directing applications for licensure, directing amateur and professional combat sport event management, and assisting with all SAC functions at regulated events as needed.
This Athletic Activities Assistant position will have a primary focus on mixed martial arts regulation, and event management, oversight of the third-party sanctioning program, and will be responsible for the following:
Coordination of medical information including, but not limited to: maintaining the Commission’s confidential medical files; ensuring that all medical examinations/testing required by SAC is performed by a Commission approved physician or medical testing facility prior to the event; ensuring any follow-up examinations requested by the Chief Medical Officer have been performed to the satisfaction of the Commission; reporting all medical suspensions to appropriate official recordkeeper databases; and coordinating necessary medical examinations with licensees and/or applicants.
Coordination of applications for events and licensing including, but not limited to: Accepting, reviewing and issuing applications for licensure/renewal, including revenue handling associated with the same; updating the Commission’s internal databases; issuing Federal Boxer Identification Cards pursuant to federal statute; issuing mixed martial arts National Identification cards; and preparation of the “show folder” for each event; and handling post-event administrative tasks and reporting, including SFS expense reporting processes.
Coordination and regulatory oversight of professional combat sports events including, but not limited to: reviewing for approval all professional matches submitted by licensed promoters and their matchmakers; reviewing all contracts for professional combat sport events; accepting and verifying completed event information sheets; providing general oversight over all aspects of the combat sport event and SAC personnel; accepting and reviewing Promoter Contest Request forms and issuing approval notices upon approval; coordinating with SAC staff for personnel assignments for professional combat sport events; assigning physicians for weigh-ins and contests; updating the SAC Outlook Calendar; supervising staff; reviewing travel expense and per diem payment vouchers of SAC special payroll (per diem) employees; training staff and preparing training materials; presenting information, upon request, at Commission meetings; assisting in the coordination of language access; and reviewing and proposing updates to Commission procedures and protocols as appropriate based on best practices of the industry and applicable law.
Performing other administrative and regulatory functions as assigned by management.
Additional Comments Hours will vary by assignment. The incumbent of this position must be available nights and weekends to attend athletic events sanctioned and regulated by the New York State Athletic Commission.
