Minimum Qualifications Individuals who have one year of permanent service as a Residential Program Assistant 2 OR who are eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law by having at least one year of permanent service in a qualifying title within two salary grades of this position are eligible to apply. 

Provisional Opportunity: Candidates must be a qualified employee of New York State and have had one month of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Developmental Aide, Developmental Aide (IRM), Developmental Disabilities Secure Care Treatment Aide 1, Licensed Practical Nurse, Mental Health Therapy Aide, Secure Care Treatment Aide, Teaching Assistant, Training Aide, or in a language parenthetic in any of the above titles. If you have one month of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a traineeship in one of these titles, you may also qualify.

Duties Description Residential Program Assistants perform a variety of tasks related to oversight of care and maintenance of a safety and therapeutic living environment for adults diagnosed with mental illness. Duties include but are not limited to:

-Supervise Mental Hhealth Therapy Aides and other lower-level direct-care staff

-Provide support and direct to residents by demonstrating effective household management techniques

-Perform administrative tasks, as assigned

-Oversee Medication Administration

-Coordinate and supervise community outings, including arranging transportation and assigning staff to accompany residents, as needed.

-Maintain Safety of residence

Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
