Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title. If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter. To qualify for the Occupation Therapy Assistant 2 eligible list, candidates must be authorized and currently registered to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in New York State AND have two years of post-authorization occupational therapy assistant experience. Section 70.1 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55 b/c service in a title SG-12 or above deemed eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. To qualify for transfer, candidates you must also be authorized and currently registered to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in New York State AND have two years of post-authorization occupational therapy assistant experience. Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Education Policy is seeking candidates for an Occupational Therapy Assistant 2 position in the New York State School for the Blind. Under the supervision of the Senior Occupational Therapist, the incumbent of this position will perform a variety of duties to assist in providing prescribed therapeutic treatment and training to students who are multiply disabled and legally blind. The incumbent will function as an advanced clinician. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Implement and maintain occupational therapy services per IEP’s, NYS Standards, and appropriate mandates;
• Review and implement all behavior plan and all pertinent behavioral and health and safety standards;
• Administer occupational therapy assessments and evaluations to assess student needs and make appropriate adjustments, recommendations, and revisions to goals;
• Prepare reports with documentation based on evaluations, assessments, and observations, and reports/discuss with Occupational Therapy team;
• Establish daily Occupational Therapy service delivery schedules;
• Select and utilize assistive technology and equipment based on knowledge of techniques, methodology and attendance at appropriate workshops/trainings; and
• Establish and monitor individual student progress through approved data collection methods.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Verification of registration and experience as an Occupational Therapy Assistant will be required at the time of interview for all candidates. Candidates are required to be authorized and currently registered to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in New York State at the time of hire. Continued employment as an Occupational Therapy Assistant 2 is dependent upon maintaining current authorization and registration to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in New York State. Failure to maintain current authorization and registration to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in New York State will result in removal from employment. Fingerprinting through the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Division of Criminal Justice Services, a background check with the Office of Children and Family Services and clearance from the Justice Center Staff Exclusion List is required for employment. Fees associated with this process are at the applicant’s expense. The work schedule for this position will be Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 3:30pm.
