Minimum Qualifications There are no education or experience qualifications for this class. Applicants must be physically able to perform the tasks of the position and be able to understand and carry out written or oral instructions.
Duties Description - Will be required to complete manual work in various DEC facilities Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to; cleaning of toilet / bathroom facilities, outhouses; constructing and maintaining privies; assisting with minor carpentry, plumbing and painting projects; signing state boundary lines; chainsaw operation including blowdown / hazard tree removal and winter ski trail maintenance; transporting material for projects, assisting with search and rescue operations, and related work in maintaining, repairing and constructing a wide variety of park structures, roads and other facilities.
- Will be required to operate a personal computer to properly document work orders and time / attendance on various computer programs.
- Will be required to work outside in adverse conditions during the winter in hilly, mountain terrain.
- Will be required to utilize snowshoes or skis and snowmobiles for winter travel.
- Will be required to cover an Interior Outpost in the winter for multiple days (overnights required).
- Will be required to respond to emergencies after hours if covering an Interior Outpost.
- Will be required to maintain state boundary lines through varied and difficult terrain.
- Will be required to navigate remote areas with map and compass, GPS.
- Will be required to follow written and or oral instructions to complete projects.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds. Must be flexible with weekly schedule changes.
This position's length will be dependent on funding and is limited to the duration of November 2021- March 2022. Employees may be asked to work only a 50% schedule. Actual work schedule, duties, and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
