Minimum Qualifications EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS:
Assistant Counsel:
Education level required: J. D. or LLB from accredited law school; admission to New York State Bar
Relevant experience required: Minimum of 2-3 years of post-admission legal experience in one or more of the following areas: economic development, corporate, real estate, contract law, litigation. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and provide business-practical legal advice a strong plus. Ideal candidate will have relevant in-house or public sector experience.
Associate Counsel:
Education level required: J. D. or LLB from accredited law school; admission to New York State Bar
Relevant experience required: Minimum of 5 years of post-admission legal experience in one or more of the following areas: economic development, corporate, real estate, contract law, litigation. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and provide business-practical legal advice a strong plus. Ideal candidate will have relevant in-house or public sector experience.
Senior Counsel:
Education level required: J. D. or LLB from accredited law school; admission to New York State Bar
Relevant experience required: Minimum of 8 years of post-admission legal experience in one or more of the following areas: economic development, corporate, real estate, contract law, litigation. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically and provide business-practical legal advice a strong plus. Ideal candidate will have relevant in-house or public sector experience
Duties Description BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for providing legal assistance to the corporation on general corporate matters with a minimum of direct supervision.
WORK PERFORMED:
? Act as Records Access Officer for the Corporation, including receipt and response to all FOIL requests and communications with requesting individuals and entities.
? Perform research and prepare advice regarding FOIL and related matters
? Depending on the Corporation’s needs, may also perform the following tasks:
• Drafts and negotiates all legal documents necessary for ESD and Department of Economic Development (DED) programs.
• Represents ESD on all aspects of various general corporate matters including economic development projects, bond financings, environmental issues and litigation.
• Provides counsel and advice to various ESD and DED departments.
• Assists in ensuring compliance with UDC Act, economic development laws and all UDC legislation and related laws and regulations.
• Performs administrative and miscellaneous tasks assigned by the Senior Vice President/Legal.
• Supervises outside counsel and consultants for ESD.
• Drafts legislation and regulations and provides advice to ESD with respect to proposed legislation that might affect ESD.
• Represents ESD at Public Hearings.
• Initiates solutions to legal problems.
Additional Comments Salary commensurate with experience.
Position expected to work onsite and/or remote consistent with NYS and ESD guidelines and needs.
