Minimum Qualifications Transfer Opportunity: NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (G-14) and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law. Open-Competitive: There will be no written test and no test date is involved. The examination requires completion of an application/supplemental questionnaire (NYS-APP-3 #20-450 & #20-451 with SUPP #20-450 & #20-451). The supplemental questionnaire IS YOUR TEST. Your completed supplemental questionnaire will be the only basis for rating your training, education, and experience. Failure to complete the supplemental questionnaire correctly may result in disqualification. If disqualified, candidates must wait six months to re-apply. Preferred Qualifications: Candidate should be familiar with the specialized needs of a health-related and/or laboratory facility. Candidate should be familiar with: general energy conservation methodology in a laboratory facility, laboratory capital equipment, specialized HVAC system, and building management systems. Candidate should also be familiar with systems necessary to provide laboratory services. Should also be familiar with arc flash and lockout-tagout procedures. Universal refrigeration certification is a plus.
Duties Description The Plant Utilities Engineer 1 will operate, maintain and repair mechanical, electrical, and capital equipment providing heat, steam, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning, and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner. May be responsible for supervising Plant Utilities Assistants, helpers, contractors, and tradespeople. Candidate should have the training and ability to work in confined spaces. Since exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved in these positions, the candidate who accepts the position may be required to wear personal protective equipment, undergo pre-employment and periodic health evaluations, and receive specific immunizations. Possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted NYS motor vehicle license. May be required to obtain Department of Environmental Conservation certifications related to site-specific facility operation. This is a 24/7 shift operation – shift assignment is subject to bidding based on DOH-Wadsworth Seniority time and may be subject to change based on operation requirements. Overtime may be required.
