Minimum Qualifications Appointment may be provisional or via transfer.

Transfer qualifications: One year of permanent, competitive service as a Security Officer.

Provisional Minimum Qualifications: Candidate must possess a New York State Security Guard Registration Number or current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State AND have:

Either 1. six months of post-Security Guard Registration experience as a Security Guard;

Or 2. six months of experience as a police officer or peace officer;

Or 3. six months of active service and an Honorable Discharge from the United States military where you performed security duties on a United States military base or vessel. Security duties on a United States military base or vessel include working as military police or as security personnel performing foot and motorized patrol, control of pedestrian and vehicular traffic, flight line security, and crime prevention/physical security.

A valid license to operate a motor vehicle in NY State is also required.

Duties Description The Security Officer, under the general direction of the Senior Security Officer, provides security services at the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge; monitors and processes pedestrian and vehicle traffic at bridge access gates; verifies credentials of all bridge visitors, vendors, delivery personnel, and contractors; patrols perimeter fence lines, bridge parking areas, facilities, etc. and reports suspicious activity to the Tarrytown Operation Center (TOC); assists in the evacuation of all bridge facilities in event of natural disaster or terrorism event; operates handheld radio or other such communication devices; prepares reports on daily activities as required; and monitor security cameras at the TOC and in guard booth.

Additional Comments Selected candidates must undergo a background investigation and pass medical and agility exams prior to appointment.

If appointed provisionally, candidate must take the next Civil Service Security Officer exam and obtain a reachable score on the resulting eligible list in order to retain position.

A location differential of $1.51 per hour is included in base pay listed.
