Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the Open Competitive minimum qualifications listed below.
Public Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications (Provisional Opportunity):
A. You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
AND
B. you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics.
Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have experience working in a community public health program and have excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills. A strong command of technology solutions that support efficient program operations is preferred. The ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities is strongly preferred.
Duties Description The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federally funded public health nutrition program that provides reimbursement for healthy meals and snacks served to children in family day care homes, day care centers, emergency shelters, and afterschool programs, as well as adults in day programs.
The Public Health Nutritionist 1 (PHN1) will provide nutrition expertise and technical assistance to ensure the quality and safety of food service operations at participating organizations. The PHN 1 will also conduct on-site visits to monitor and evaluate fiscal and administrative integrity of programs, and ensure compliance with State and federal regulations. Responsibilities of the PHN 1 will also include reviewing and recommending application approvals; providing training related to menu planning and food service operations; and maintaining required records consistent with CACFP regulations.
