Minimum Qualifications Permanent Transfer Candidates: Current DOH employee with permanent or contingent-permanent competitive status as a Public Health Nutritionist 1; OR New York State employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service in a title at or above Grade 20 and eligible for transfer under Section 70.4 of the Civil Service Law by meeting the Open Competitive minimum qualifications listed below.
Public Open Competitive Minimum Qualifications (Provisional Opportunity):
A. You must be a Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) currently registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, the credentialing agency for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
AND
B. you must have two years of full-time professional experience, after successful completion of the Registration Examination for Dietitians, in the field of nutrition or dietetics.
Substitution: A Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Health, Public Health, Public Administration, Health (Care/Services) Administration, Nutrition Education, Health Education, Community Health, Health Care Policy and Management, Psychology, Counseling, Social Work/Social Welfare, Human and Social Services, Early Childhood Education, or Public Policy may be substituted for one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have progressively responsible professional work experience in a large, multi-faceted, public health nutrition program with excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills and a strong command of public health as it relates to child and maternal nutrition; must be able to work independently and handle multiple priorities.
Duties Description The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) offers nutrition education, breastfeeding support, referrals, and a variety of nutritious foods to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum women, infants and children up to age five to promote and support good health.
The Public Health Nutritionist 1 (PHN 1) will work in the Program Communication and Collaboration Section (PCCS). The PCCS is responsible for managing communication across the Program, and core outreach, retention, certification, and breastfeeding elements essential to providing high quality, participant-centered services to WIC participants. The PHN 1 will develop and maintain standardized communication processes and procedures for interactions with WIC local agency, regional office, and central office staff, and will use various methods and modalities of communication. The incumbent will also interpret federal regulations, develop, and implement policies and guidance, and provide technical assistance to state and local agency staff in key program areas. The PHN 1 will participate in program planning for NYWIC, participate in user acceptance testing, and monitor reports/data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
