Minimum Qualifications Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience. Four years of specialized experience or associate’s degree and two years of specialized experience may substitute for bachelor’s degree; J.D. or master’s degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience; Ph.D. may substitute for two years of specialized experience.
Duties Description The Assistant Director Public Information will assist Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs representing the Commissioner and the Department in matters related to the news media and other external public and private organizations. Specific responsibilities will include as necessary serving as the Health Department’s official spokesperson with authority to speak to the press, media or public on behalf of the Commissioner and the Department.
Assist in establishing and maintaining effective relations with the news media to inform the public, via press releases and other means, about the Department’s programs and operations; assisting in maintaining responsibility for scheduling and arranging the logistics of the Commissioner’s news conferences and interviews; assisting in the development and preparation of speeches and other public presentations for delivery by the Commissioner, assisting with reviewing and clearing the Department’s responses regarding Governor’s briefings, Commissioner briefings, agency reports to the Legislature, speech drafts and department publications to ensure that formal Department communications are consistent with Department policies; assisting in establishing and maintaining viable internal channels of communication to ensure uniform comprehension of policies, procedures and protocols.; and assisting in developing both a long-range and short-range public relations program designed to explain and focus public attention on the Department’s public health and health regulatory role.
