Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming).

Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming). If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.

Section 52.6 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title allocated SG-16 or higher eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. 55b/c Appointment: This position is eligible for 55b/c designation and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility. Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications and a current 55b/c eligibility letter.



Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Performance Improvement and Management Services is seeking candidates for an Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) position in the Office of Information Technology Services (ITS). The incumbent of this position will be assigned to the ITS Database Unit and will perform Unisys mainframe (DMSII) and Oracle database management technical support activities. The activities are performed in the Unisys MCP, Oracle Database Appliance (Linux), Windows Server, and Windows desktop operating environments. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Support enterprise Unisys mainframe DMSII databases;
• Support enterprise Oracle databases;
• Support Oracle application and data warehouse development and associated development tools;
• Participate in Unisys mainframe and Oracle database troubleshooting and problem resolution;
• Design database work associated with new application development;
• Support application program coding efforts associated new and legacy application development;
• Create database structures associated with application development and enhancement;
• Participate in JAD sessions associated with application development;
• Support the database for application developers;
• Support backup and recovery of Unisys mainframe DMSII and Oracle databases, as required;
• Create and maintain accurate and timely documentation; and
• Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, New York State agencies, and vendors, as needed.



Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits.
