Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Trades Generalist will be responsible for a primary trade of marine fiberglass repair and will also perform a variety of carpentry and auto body repair tasks. Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Repair lifesaving equipment such as surfboards, surfboats and other fiberglass equipment for the region; inspect rub rails and oarlocks and replace when necessary;
2. Perform carpentry repairs to lifeguard equipment as needed;
3. Install, repair, replace and clean buoy lines used in Zach’s Bay;
4. Paint, letter and wax marine and lifeguard equipment as needed using appropriate materials and equipment;
5. Make minor body repairs to motor vehicles and fenders including applying finished coats of automobile paint;
6. Order materials for the repair of lifeguard equipment and motor vehicles following state purchasing procedures;
7. Maintain daily record of work performed and materials used
8. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on power tools such as disc and belt sanders, drills and saws to insure safe and efficient operation
9. Operate light trucks, passenger vehicles, and other small equipment as required;
10. May be required to load and unload materials, tools, and equipment of varying weights and sizes
11. Fabricate, and repair rope lines using proper rope-splicing and knot-tying techniques for mooring and anchor lines and buoy lines, etc.
12. Perform other related duties as required
Additional Comments Salary: $44,354 +3,026 Location Pay
OPERATING NEEDS
By the date of appointment, selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Driver License as a term and condition of employment.
The selected candidate must obtain a New York State Boating Safety Certificate within the probationary period as required to operate motorized boats.
Ability to use various tools used in fiberglass repair, carpentry and/or auto body repair. equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Ability to prepare daily reports of work performed and materials used.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to move equipment and/or materials of different weights and sizes
Preference will be given to applicants with experience in marine fiberglass repair, carpentry, or auto body repair
Some positions may require additional credentials or a background check to verify your identity.
