Engineer Trainee:
A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
Assistant Engineer (Mechanical/HVAC):
Proof of successful completion of a National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
Individuals appointed as an Engineer Trainee are required to complete a minimum of one year of successful performance as an Engineer Trainee and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. If you obtain your FE by the end of the first year, you will be advanced to the appropriate appoint-level-changed (PR-50) Grade 20 Assistant Engineer title. If you do not obtain your FE by the end of the second year of the traineeship, you will be terminated from your position.
Duties Description Assist in the design heating, cooling, ventilation and refrigeration systems for Departmental facilities statewide. Includes the preparation of detailed plans, specifications and cost estimates.
Assist in the management of HVACR projects designed by outside consultants both directly and through other agencies such as OGS and NYPA.
Develop HVAC projects in support of the State’s electrification initiative, including geothermal, VRF, HRV etc.
Participate in retro/re-commissioning projects to improve the efficiency of Departmental HVACR systems.
Under the supervision of higher-level engineers, design and implement energy efficiency, renewable energy and carbon reduction projects including BMS systems, solar thermal, thermal storage, etc.
Provide engineering support to higher level engineers and energy professionals in the evaluation, design and implementation of energy reduction and decarbonization projects.
Respond to technical service requests from Departmental Regions and Divisions as assigned.
Will be required to conduct statewide site visits which will occasionally include accessing facilities in remote areas.
Additional Comments Must have valid driver's license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain and work in remote areas. Travel, overtime, and overnight travel may be required.
