Minimum Qualifications One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Construction Equipment Mechanic, Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics); Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason and Plasterer), Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber and Steamfitter), Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofer), or Trades Specialist (Welder). This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators.
Duties Description Supervisory experience and the ability to assess employee skill sets, provide training and direct oversight and daily management of the staff of the Plumbing Shop and the AS Equipment Repair Shop which include General Mechanics, Plumber Steamfitters and Maintenance Assistants; experience with “hands-on” support of the facilities plumbing tasks such as inspecting, testing and repairing of sprinkler systems, fire pumps and hydrants and inspecting, testing and repairing of various water supply systems and drainage systems including irrigation systems; ability to procure materials and supplies following state guidelines, creating and implementing service contracts and material contracts on an as-needed basis; Experience implementing a comprehensive preventative maintenance program, prioritizing and distributing work requests, tracking all work and support using a computerized maintenance management system, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and the ability to utilize spreadsheets; ability to provide all support with-in budgetary guidelines and submit yearly budget requests and timely budgets reports on day-to-day operations; ability to work with diverse groups including the student population, Residential Life staff, Physical Plant staff, Budget Office, Vendors, The University at Albany Foundation, and maintenance staff; work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; Valid New York state Driver's license required.
