Minimum Qualifications One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Construction Equipment Mechanic, Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics); Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason and Plasterer), Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber and Steamfitter), Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofer), or Trades Specialist (Welder). This position may be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment. Candidates may be expected to be qualified to use negative pressure respirators.
Duties Description Prior supervisory experience in a trades shop, grounds or custodial services; ability to perform as a working supervisor to all support staff engaged in maintenance and repair activities of the 26 building / 25 acre Empire Commons consisting of residential housing, exercise facilities, staff offices and meeting spaces; ability to use a computerized maintenance system (AiM) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and ability to utilize spreadsheets; track and schedule ordinary vehicle maintenance; regularly survey facilities for deficiencies and required repairs; review job orders, blueprints, specifications, order supplies, parts, and equipment and prioritize workforce objectives; ability to purchase equipment and supplies using procurement card and purchase order processes; experience in completing / auditing employee time card submissions; familiarity of apartment living operations involving heating, ventilation, lighting and appliance terms; work overtime as required for emergencies and campus events; ability to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass a fit test; Valid New York state Driver's license required.
