Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries; marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Preferred: Experience with non-game species ecology, survey methods, and habitat.

Duties Description As part of the Regional Wildlife Diversity Unit, job duties will include the following:
Assess compliance with issued Incidental Take permits: conduct site visits, complete reports/documents, notices of work starting, etc., and keep files for issued permits/projects organized and up-to-date. Interact with project sponsors, contractors and other facility staff. Visit active construction sites to check compliance with permit conditions and protections for species. Summarize site visit information collected and generate written reports or emails to supervisors. Incumbent will assist with investigation of complaints related to impacts to Threatened and Endangered species, which may include site visits to verify reports or collect specimens from the field. Manage GIS databases for tracking project review and compliance. Assist with managing files and searches and redactions for Freedom of Information Law requests. Assist with review of minor projects and provide the public with information on how to avoid impacts to species. Assist with other species survey work, including New England cottontail, Bald Eagle, bats, grassland birds, marsh birds, timber rattlesnake, bog and Blanding's turtle, and northern cricket frog. Incumbent will at times assist with all other aspects of the wildlife program, including emergency responses to wildlife situations, hunter-killed deer data collection, and answering questions from the public over the phone and in person, including questions about nuisance wildlife, and hunting and trapping. This position starts on or after November 1, 2021. Job could be extended based on funding and performance.

Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain, work in remote areas and in adverse weather conditions. Travel, overnight travel and overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 35 pounds.

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration through 3/31/2022. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date, which may be prior to date listed. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at interview.
