Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming).
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates must be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming). If you are on the Civil Service eligible list for this title, you may receive a canvass letter. You must complete and return it as instructed on the letter.
Section 52.6 Transfer: Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service in a title allocated SG-16 or higher eligible to transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to candidates who have:
• Knowledge and practical experience programming in Java;
• Knowledge and practical experience using relational SQL databases such as Oracle; and
• Knowledge and experience with client-side web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Performance Improvement and Management Services is seeking candidates for two Information Technology Specialist 2 (Programming) positions in the Office of Information Technology Services. The incumbents of these positions will serve as members of the Business Solutions team, providing programming support for NYSED's enterprise applications, and developing Information Technology (IT) solutions to support the business needs of NYSED. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Update and maintain web-based applications written in various client-side and server-side programming languages;
• Ensure all applications are mobile-friendly and accessible;
• Maintain and update SQL databases, as required;
• Analyze and recommend system modifications and determine the impact of proposed changes;
• Identify and troubleshoot problems as well as implement necessary solutions;
• Conduct unit and integration testing of application components;
• Assist with system maintenance activities;
• Conduct business systems analysis and design, working closely with IT Technical Unit staff; and
• Ensure that systems and procedures are properly documented, meet Department standards, and follow generally accepted IT practices.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: These will be permanent appointments. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. * Leads to a maximum salary of $76,387 based on annual performance advances.
